 |
Review
Summary |
Artichoke Extract 500™ is a daily dietary supplement by Source Naturals®, which promotes numerous other supplements. It seems that Artichoke Extract 500™ may have some health benefits; we appreciate that it contains basic extracts. The supplement is said to be a “stimulate bile production, promoting fat digestion and metabolism.” Thus, the product is not specifically claimed to reduce bad cholesterol.
We find a good product will actually be supported by evidence; such evidence may be scientific, research-oriented and even based on testimony. In these regards, supplements based on single fruit extracts may not be attractive. Therefore, we will take a closer look at the Artichoke Extract 500™ ingredients and conclude whether it may really be an effective product with potential benefits, or whether there may be better formulas on the market.

 | Ingredients at a Glance |
|
As per the supplement fact sheet posted on Source Naturals® website, each tablet of Artichoke Extract 500™ contains 500 mg of Artichoke Leaf and Root Extract, as well as 50 mg of Calcium. We like Artichokes in general; however, we do not see what and how exactly they may aid in reducing bad cholesterol count. We think that a good supplement will probably not have commonplace nutrients and ingredients; instead, it will probably have something that is not easily obtained by eating natural foods alone.

 | Ingredients in Focus |
|
Even though there may be some potentially misleading and unfounded claims by some people, we could not find as of review any substantial scientific proof based on research that links Artichoke with lowered LDL levels. It may be that Artichoke may provide some overall health benefits, including increasing bile flow; however, we could not verify how taking it in supplemental form may be any better.
In any case, benefits of Artichoke may be easily gotten by eating cooked Artichokes. Therefore, an individual may prefer to take a formula that supplies such an ingredient that has been scientifically researched and suggested to meaningfully reduce LDL levels. One such ingredient may be Plant Sterols. Since they are only available in trace amounts in foods like Soy and Milk, it perhaps makes more sense to take a supplement with proven amounts of certified Plant Sterols.

 | Website |
|
As of this review, there seems to be no exclusive website for Artichoke Extract 500™, although its manufacturer has an official online presence. We believe that the manufacturer could have gained our trust more if they had created an exclusive and official website on the product. A quality male enhancement formula may also be backed by numerous and positive testimonials. At the time of this review, the Source Naturals® website does not list product-specific testimonials, and it does not have online buying features as well.

 | Final Thoughts |
|
It has been widely established that abnormally high levels of LDL may significantly increase the risk of heart disease. Hypercholesterolemia is actually quite a common problem; therefore, a lot of generic and brand-name drugs may be available for the condition. Of course, it is an option to go with prescription drugs. However, for many of us, the potentially dangerous side effects may not be attractive.
Given the causes of hypercholesterolemia and its effects, it is strongly recommended to take a course of action and actively try to lower LDL levels. Exercising and being careful of your diet is important. However, such actions alone may not be enough. In light of all the evidence and research-based findings, it may be wise to supplement a diet with Phytosterols.
