Review
Summary |
Cholest Factors is advertised as a cholesterol lowering supplement by Nature’s Purest, which promotes numerous other basic supplements. It seems that Cholest Factors may have some health benefits; we appreciate that it contains some interesting simple ingredients, including phytosterols. However, we would have liked it even more if instead of including some of the lesser ingredients, it had more of the Plant Sterols, which have been shown to significantly reduce LDL levels.
We find a good product will actually be supported by evidence; such evidence may be scientific, research-oriented and even based on testimony. We believe that we need to take a holistic approach in determining whether a given product is worthy of our trust and investment. Therefore, we will take a closer look at the Cholest Factors ingredients and conclude whether it may really be an effective product with potential benefits, or whether there may be better formulas on the market.

 | Ingredients at a Glance |
|
As per the supplement fact sheet posted on Nature’s Purest website, Cholest Factors contains some of the following ingredients: Red Yeast Rice, Polycosanol Concentrate, Phytosterol Concentrate, Campesterol, Guggul Extract, Garlic, Niacin, Co-Enzyme Q10 and Cayenne Pepper. Some of these ingredients may be quite common in many different types of supplements. On the other hand, some, like Niacin, may be found in just about any multivitamin supplement.

 | Ingredients in Focus |
|
Red Yeast Rice is claimed to significantly reduce total cholesterol. It is said that it reduces LDL, or bad cholesterol, and triglycerides, while not really affecting the HDL, or the good cholesterol, levels. However, there may not be enough evidence to back these claims. Similarly, Niacin is just an organic compound also known as Vitamin B3. As such, it may be found in numerous supplements. Although it may have some overall health benefits, we do not see how it may exactly reduce LDL levels.

 | Lifestyle |
|
If an individual has a history of high cholesterol and is over the age of 20, then it is said to be important to have blood cholesterol levels analyzed every couple of years. Furthermore, it may be a good idea to watch your diet. However, it may be asking too much of oneself to give up red meats or eggs and other food items that are otherwise healthy and desirable but for their high cholesterol. Therefore, an individual may wish to take a formula that supplies phytosterols, which are cholesterol-like compounds found in plant products. These Plant Sterols have been exhaustively reviewed and analyzed to be valuable in lowering serum cholesterol.

 | Final Thoughts |
|
It has been widely established that abnormally high levels of LDL may significantly increase the risk of heart disease. Hypercholesterolemia is actually quite a common problem; therefore, a lot of generic and brand-name drugs may be available for the condition. Of course, it is an option to go with prescription drugs. However, for many of us, the potentially dangerous side effects may not be attractive.
Given the causes of hypercholesterolemia and its potential effects, it is strongly recommended to take a course of action and actively try to lower LDL levels. Exercising and being careful of your diet is important. However, such actions by themselves may not be enough. In light of all the evidence and research-based findings, it may be wise to supplement a diet with phytosterols.
However, natural foods usually have only trace amounts of these Plant Sterols. Therefore, it may be a good idea to take up a trustworthy supplement in a capsule form with certified Plant Sterols. Some clinical studies seem to suggest that over 1,000 mg of phytosterols may significantly lower LDL levels.
