Cholestasys™ is a compilation of elements that are commonly found in many products geared toward lowering unhealthy cholesterol levels. However, their inclusion does not necessarily guarantee a product’s effectiveness, because they have varying levels of efficiency. We will take a brief look at these elements.

Guggle is actually an herbal extract used extensively in Ayurvedic medicine to address a variety of issues, but it has become associated with cardiovascular health and cholesterol issues in the West. The clinical studies we reviewed on Guggulipid have been conflicting in terms of results. For instance, the studies conduced in India, the home of Ayurvedic medicine, showed that it lowered Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol, or “good” cholesterol. However, recent studies conduced in the U.S. showed contradictory results.

Cayenne is also used in this formula, mostly due to research that showed individuals born into cultures that eat large amounts of Cayenne seem to have lower rates of cardiovascular disease. However, this research did not confirm that supplementation with Cayenne may lower cholesterol levels or increase heart health. Also, the exact dosage needed has not been ascertained as of review, possibly limiting its abilities when included in products such as Cholestasys™.

Garlic has gained a reputation for being able to boost cardiovascular health, but the real question is - may it lower cholesterol levels? Some studies have shown that it may lower "bad" cholesterol levels, but when the research is reviewed in its entirety, it is clear that this research has been inconclusive as of review. In fact, one study conducted in 2007 cast some really serious doubt on Garlic’s ability in this arena, and we are taking a wait and see stance ourselves.

We find Plant Sterols are the only really effective element in this formula – in clinical studies it was shown to significantly cut levels of bad cholesterol. This is because they are structurally similar to cholesterol, so they reduce the absorption of cholesterol in the gut by challenging cholesterol for absorption. This allows the body to try to digest the Plant Sterols instead, letting the bad cholesterol move out of the body.

However, our findings show that certified Plant Sterols work best in products that provide dosages of 1200 mg. Unfortunately, this amount is rarely found in holistic formulas, such as Cholestasys™; although we have seen this amount used in a few of the more results-oriented formulas. Clinical research shows using Plants Sterols may allow people to indulge from time to time in the foods they like to eat, regardless of their cholesterol content, which is a great perk.

Uncontrolled high cholesterol may have a serious impact on an individual’s health.
